Since thousands of years, the ethos of "Pass on Farming and Reading " has never fallen. The poem on the lintels of Jiefa Tea House has added lots of elegance and fun to this old house. Standing in the store, your eyes are easily caught by the words "song" and "fisheye" on the wooden screen. What do these two words mean? This is one of the lines in the poem "Tea baking Experiment" by Su Shi in the Northern Song Dynasty-", describing about the sound of chirping when baking tea in the stove, like the sound of wind blowing pine leaves. "Fisheye" is the blisters appearing when boiling tea, and the big bubbles are fisheyes, the small bubbles crabeyes. All are the metaph of the fun of tea making. The couplet on the middle gate written on with the words "dragon cluster" and "bird tongue" are the names of ancient teas, creating rich meanings, by which you can literally understand how people experience the pleasure of drinking tea in their leisure!

The second floor of the first entry is art Gallery, which maintain its original building structure of bricks and wood. This space regularly displays art from overseas and that from our own country, such as photography, sketching, wood carving, community working achievements and so on, which is an important site for art exhibition in Xiluo. It offers visitors a rich art feast after experiencing the history and culture of Xiluo

In the Old Street, the cultural relics of the ordinary people's life summarized are various supplies for food, clothing, housing, and entertainment, including steamers, bamboo baskets, bamboo sieves, Xie baskets, stoves, seedling baskets, sewing machines, public telephones, blue shakers, sacrificial supplies, bath barrels, clothes, pickled clay pots, dressing tables, kitchen cabinets, etc. Among them, there is a gray pottery piece, square the outer and circle the inner, about 10 cm high, which is, in the old street building, a brick buried in the wall pillar to bear raining water. In Taiwan where it is rainy in summer, whether the old house is well preserved or not depends on whether the buried bricks piled up in each corner of the house are broken, by which people check if the house can bear long use.

In Xiluo, the street is called " The first Street ", also known "Dark Street", a narrow road from the east to the west paralleling to Yanping road which begins from Daciao road to Jianxing Road. It was narrow because, in old times, it was only for pedestrians, rickshaw and Ox cart. Located in the middle part of the Zhuo Shui River, Xiluo became a trade center for converging goods of mountain and marine as well as frequent merchants' gethering.
Therefore,in 1935, during the period of " City Renovating Planning", a street southward from the Dark Street was planned, and it is the one called Yanping road by now. Due to the alteration of the main street, the residents had no choice but to build walls to block, which forms the patio between two entries.

Coming to the second entry, suggest to take first look at the large wall on the left, on which are the records of the history of Xiluo Old Street as well as the Xu Jin family. The left and the right rooms were originally the tea making rooms, and the middle hall the working area. Now these spaces are for Cultural relics exhibition of the Jiefa family.

The exhibition cabinet on the left is Jiefa's old account book, which records the financial relationship of the tea shop's trading companies, local celebrities and family members, and was clearly listed the import and payment of tea green from Keelung. Account book reveals the business networks at home and abroad, such as the famous Yaoyang Tea Shop, a business partner more than 100 years ago. In addition, many store seals, tea seals are kept in the shop. These different seals show different purposes as well as the business situation of the old tea houses.

There is a water well in the third entry patio. In ancient times, the cost of manual well drilling was high. Usually a village shared a well.Only wealthy people like Jiefa had the financial resources to own a well. Imagine the situation that, around the well, children were playing while the Xu's women were doing their laundry and chatting with each other. The well should be the most liveliest place for the whole house!
Walking in from the outside, did it occur to you that this house is quite long? The longhouse living pattern of Xiluo Old Street was formed during the Japanese period from 1925 to 1940.Concerned about the relationship between lighting and air circulation, the patio is necessary between each entrance. Jiefa's third entry was built in 1933 and was the most luxurious of the old houses in Xiluo. The place now you are standing is also the most beautiful spot to take pictures, why not stop and give it a photo shoot?

It is about 90 years ago the third entry was completed. It looks like a Western architectural style at the first glance, but on closer inspection, it is actually built in the pattern of traditional Chinese Min-style architecture. Before 1933, this place was a Sanheyuan bungalow building shaped like a square without one side. The middle house is connected and communicated at the two side(called Hù lóng, means "Dragon Guard Room") by the door-opened of the room, the other door of the room right facing to the outside. The central is the Shenming hall for the family to worship their ancestors and some gods. The patio is like the inner courtyard of Sanheyuan. The toilet is outside the house. All about this tells that people here still conserve the essence of culture of ancient Han people's living convention.

The second floor of the third entry used to be the living space of the owner of the tea house, now it is a heritage B&B. Although the grid on the gate of the Shenming Hall has been weathered to the point that the original poems are no longer visible, the chisel marks carved on the wood by time have people generate affection of the old time. Several hand-carved flowers of the glass on the door are gorgeous, all original 90 years ago. The gooseneck railing around the patio creates the dedication of the garden.
There is one more thing I want to show you! Follow me~ All along the cloister to the big terrace, are you here now? Turn back and you can see the most magnificent wall of the cultural street. On the top of the middle there is a flying eagle statue. It is said that the eagle holding a coin in its mouth flying into the house signifies wealthy, as well as the double lions besides, and the three reliefs below. These carved patterns symbolized the family's wealth and the blessing of long life.

On the backyard of the culture museum erects a bamboo scaffold completed by a group of volunteers. The bamboo scaffolds was built for workshops. Standing under the bamboo scaffold and looking back, you can see another style of the old red brick building of Jiefa Tea House. The old bathroom is kept on the left hand side. The ancients attached great importance to Feng Shui, and the toilet could only be set up outdoors.
The backyard is planted with a 100-year-old longan tree. The hexagonal bricks on the ground of the backyard come from the floors in the second floor of the first and third entry . When the museum was getting renovated in 2012, to decrease the weight of the floor and to retain these hexagonal bricks, the hexagonal bricks were moved to the backyard. The bamboo tea booth on the right is there to offer visitors a place to enjoy having tea in an atmosphere of an old house and its history.
